Received a phone call from a woman who in spite of significant seniority was being paid less than a newly-hired man doing the same job. The Equal Pay Act gives redress to a woman in this situation.
If the work is identical, or reasonably so, then an employer must pay a woman what it pays a man. No excuses.
This is one area among a few where there is no cause for "reverse discrimination." Only a woman can bring a claim under the Equal Pay Act. While an employer could face a sex discrimination suit for this, that is harder to prove. A man cannot simply point to a higher-paid woman doing identical work, like a woman can do to a man.
